A Glimpse into the Grape Harvest of Sierra Foothills: Legacy, Land, and Loving Craft

We’re blessed with early harvests, thanks to our generous sun. Did you know our region’s altitude plays a big part in shaping the flavors of the wines we adore? Those temperature drops at night? Perfect for grapes!

The Process to Harvest Grapes

The grape harvest, often referred to as “vendange” or “crush,” is a meticulous and time-sensitive process, marking the culmination of a year’s labor and anticipation in the vineyard. As grapes reach their optimal maturity, bursting with flavor and sugar, vineyard workers embark on the challenging task of picking each cluster by hand. This ensures that only the best fruits are selected, leaving behind under ripe or damaged grapes. The timing is crucial; harvest too early and the grapes may lack depth; too late, and they might be overly sweet or even start to rot. Once picked, the grapes are swiftly transported to the winery. Here, they’re destemmed, crushed, and their juice begins the transformation into wine. It’s a labor of love, with every step, from vine to vat, deeply influencing the character of the wine.

Harvesting: Where Old Meets New

Our love for tradition shines through in our vineyards. Hand-harvesting is a ritual here, and with the rolling terrains, you’d understand why! Some vineyards even follow the ancient method of dry farming. Yet, we’re not shy of innovations – newer techniques are sprouting up to ensure we get the best out of every grape.
