If you blink, you may miss Colfax CA. It’s a small City of around 2,000 people located adjacent to Interstate 80 about an 45 minutes from Sacramento.
Located in the Gold Country, this area is rich in history of gold miners and trappers. According to Wikipedia the area was once known as Alder Grove, the city was renamed to Colfax in 1865 after a visit from then Speaker of the House Schulyer Colfax.
This historic train stop is still active with Amtrack passenger train stops located right in the middle of town. It’s lined by historical buildings and I can just imagine what it would be like back then!
This City offers a small grocery store Marval. It has everything you need and if they don’t just ask. They will probably order it for you. Expect to get to know your cashier and bagger. You will likely see them often as this is a tight knit community who waves at their neighbor!
