Kick off your summer with an invigorating adventure at the Summer Star Hike Challenge 2024 hosted by Bear Yuba Land Trust (BYLT). This event runs from June 1 to June 30, offering a month-long opportunity to explore the stunning trails of Nevada County.

Participants are encouraged to hike 30 miles in 30 days, discovering hidden gems and experiencing the natural beauty of the region. Each completed mile brings a sense of accomplishment and a deeper connection to nature.

BYLT, known for maintaining over 50 miles of public recreational trails, is dedicated to conserving land and supporting the community through events like this. The challenge not only promotes physical health and outdoor activity but also fosters a sense of community among participants.

Art In Nature Installations

In tandem with the hiking challenge, BYLT is presenting the “Art In Nature Installations” from June 1 to June 30. This unique event features site-specific art installations along various trails, created by local artists Elizabeth Winters, Amanda Post, and Peggy Wright.

  • “Without Walls” by Elizabeth Winters & Amanda Post: This installation along the Cascade Canal Trail and Orene Wetherall Trail invites hikers to appreciate the natural beauty through handmade frames crafted from forest materials.
  • “Nest” by Peggy Wright: Located at Wildflower Ridge Preserve, this interactive sculpture symbolizes the nurturing and protection of nature, inviting community members to contribute to its construction.

These installations enhance the hiking experience, blending art and nature in a way that highlights the creativity and environmental stewardship of the local community.

Join the Celebration

The Summer Star Hike Challenge and Art In Nature Installations are part of BYLT’s broader “Celebration of Trails.” This initiative aims to engage the community through trail-centric, family-friendly activities, showcasing the vital role of trails in conservation and recreation.
